What metadata can and cannot tell you

Fields come from this build of FFprobe. Some containers omit duration, frame counts, bitrates, bit depths or language. Missing values mean not reported, not zero. Average FPS and nominal frame rate are different; these values do not prove constant frame rate.

PQ and HLG transfer flags are reported as HDR signals. This is not a color calibration, quality or authenticity check. Reported dimensions account for pixel aspect ratio and quarter-turn rotation, where signalled. Displayed values can be approximate.

Headers are inspected without decoding every frame. A readable report does not guarantee a fully playable file. Encrypted, corrupt or unsupported sources may fail. This tool reads HDR metadata without converting HDR. All processing stays on this device; originals remain unchanged.
