Frequently asked questions
Are these passwords truly random?
Yes. They are generated with crypto.getRandomValues(), the browser's cryptographically secure random number generator — the same API security-sensitive web apps use. Not Math.random().
What does the strength meter measure?
Entropy in bits: password length × log₂ of the character pool size. 80+ bits is strong against brute force; 110+ is effectively uncrackable. Longer passwords and bigger character sets both raise it.
Why guarantee one character from each set?
It prevents weak outputs like an all-lowercase password when you asked for symbols too. Every generated password contains at least one character from each set you enabled.
What are ambiguous characters?
Characters that look alike in many fonts: capital i (I), lowercase L (l), digit one (1), capital O (O), digit zero (0). Excluding them avoids misreading passwords.
Is it safe to generate passwords on a website?
Here, yes — everything runs locally in your browser and nothing is transmitted or stored. As a rule, never generate passwords on a site you don't trust, and use a password manager to store them.
How long should my password be?
20+ characters with all four sets is strong for most uses. For master passwords or encryption keys, go 32+.
