Frequently asked questions
Everything you should know about compressing images.
Will compressing an image reduce its quality?
It depends on your settings. JPG and WebP use lossy compression, so lower quality values can reduce detail. An 80% setting is a reasonable starting point; preview the downloaded image if sharpness matters. PNG typically uses lossless compression, so its quality control may make little difference.
How many images can I compress at once?
You can add up to 20 JPG, PNG or WebP images per batch. You can download each result separately or get all successfully processed results in one ZIP file. Very large batches may take longer depending on your device.
Are my photos uploaded to a server?
No. Image decoding, resizing, compression and ZIP creation happen locally in your browser. Files never leave your device. An internet connection is needed initially to load the open-source compression and ZIP libraries from the CDN, but no image data is sent to them.
Can I change image dimensions without stretching them?
Yes. Enter a maximum width, maximum height, or both. Images are fitted inside those limits while preserving their original proportions. Smaller images are not enlarged.
Which format should I choose: JPG, PNG or WebP?
Use JPG for regular photographs when broad compatibility matters, PNG for graphics requiring lossless detail or transparency, and WebP for many web images where smaller files and transparency support are useful. Select Original format to keep each file's current format.
Why is my compressed file not smaller?
Some images are already highly optimized, and converting formats can sometimes increase their size. If a recompressed file is larger and the format stays the same, the tool keeps your smaller original instead. For stronger savings, try a lower quality, smaller dimensions or WebP output.
