Frequently asked questions
Is bulk image upscaling really free?
Yes. No account, credits, paid API or daily usage quota. Device memory, processing time and temporary storage set practical batch limits. You can start another batch after downloading and clearing this one.
What is the difference between Standard and AI?
Standard uses high-quality linear-light Lanczos3 interpolation with optional edge sharpening. It does not recover missing detail. AI uses real, local Real-ESRGAN models to predict edges and texture. Predictions can change fine details or text; always inspect important images.
How much does AI download?
Standard downloads no AI engine. AI usually loads about 15–30 MB of runtime files (a GPU-to-CPU fallback can fetch another runtime binary), plus the selected model: 4.9 MB Balanced or 67.1 MB Photo detail. Browser caching can avoid later downloads. Photo detail needs a desktop with working WebGPU and enough memory; Balanced also supports slower CPU processing.
Why might an image need a safe size?
Large images and AI use significant memory. This tool checks pixel counts before decoding and asks before reducing a working image. A safe-size result may be smaller than your original; the queue shows exact dimensions. Animated files are treated as a still image, not an animation. Nothing is silently switched to Standard.
Are my images uploaded?
No. Image processing, previews and ZIP creation run in your browser. Your browser fetches the tool and AI files, but your images are not sent to an image-processing server. Compressed results use temporary local browser storage. Clear your batch to remove them; results older than 24 hours are cleaned on a later visit.
